Entrecard / OIOpublisher / Good Idea?
UPDATE: This is an update to the below post. The problem I had has been rectified. In the Entrecard forum they said the seller # was the one associated with your ec account, so I used the one associated with my widget and it should have been the one that shows up in my toolbar, yes I can admit when I’m wrong. So now when you get your API from Entrecard they also have your seller # listed for you. Now I feel better that this has finally been sorted out.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
As everyone knows by now Entrecard has teamed up with OIOpublisher and I thought it was a good idea at the time so I purchased the plugin to be supportive of Entrecard and to also add a platform for advertising which would be easy to manage. I know that people have a hard time parting with money, but they are willing to part with ec credits that they work very hard for. So far I have lost 2 ec sales.
This plugin may work for some entrecard users, but it certainly hasn’t worked for me so far and if you read the forum at oiopublisher.com you will find it has many bugs that are keeping it from working properly for others also. For the time being I have removed the banner for OIOpublisher because I can’t recommend it at this time. I was told by Simon that he had hoped for a fix by Friday and today is Saturday and it still doesn’t work.
I hope this isn’t going to prove to be another bad Entrecard partnership for me. I’m sure you remember the SezWho and Digg experiments? I really like entrecard and recommend it for traffic especially if you are trying to lower your Alexa ranking for advertising, but actually how important is Alexa anymore? Most advertisers prefer page rank and if you don’t have that then they really hate parting with money.
I actually think because so many sites are covered with advertising that people get overwhelmed and simply click away. I certainly don’t click on anything when the first thing I see is a huge Google ad spot before I even see content and I really get ticked off when someone tricks me into clicking something I didn’t want to by making it look like something else. I have recently started seeing the banner that looks like an ec card again.
I will wait a couple more days to see if OIOpublisher gets a fix for my current problem and if I see no fix in sight then it will be removed from this blog unless someone is willing to part with money instead of ec credits which I doubt. The only thing you can use credits for now is advertising since no one is allowed to sell them anymore which I would never consider doing unless Entrecard wanted to buy them from me.
With the limit of transfers to 1,000 a week and the tax put on them they aren’t even worth using as an incentive to give away, now that’s a pity.

I can’t join in the OIO experiment because I don’t have a hosted site, and anyway I’m not trying to earn from my blog. I don’t know that I would ever make any attempt to do so because neither SezWho nor the digg project helped me in the least. I’ve left SezWho there, more out of laziness than anything, but I’ll plod on with standard Entrecard, because I’ve made a number of very good friends and found many very good blogs (in amongst the “others”). Entrecard has been very worthwhile in itself.

Hello A,
I have really enjoyed the blogs and people I have met through Entrecard also and everyone has their own reasons for using this service some to gain readers for what they have to say, but the majority try to make money with their blogs. All I have to say is to each their own and I hope everyone receives what they want.

Wow…sorry to hear about the OIO problems and bugs! That is one huge reason I like to sit back and see how things like that go for others first. Was there a money-back guarantee?

Hi Kathy,
The OIOpublisher is working fine now and the fault was apparently mine so by the time others decide to try it, it should be working good. I’m not sure if there was a money back guarantee or not, but since it was through PayPal there shouldn’t be a problem.

Jude - I realise how much I dont know when I come to your site and read your posts. I blog but have no clue really what I am doing. I will be back to try and learn some more. Gosh, nothing is straightforward. Thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving such a thoughtful comment - it gave me food for thought! Thanks, now I will continue reading some more on your site to see what I can learn.

Lilly,
I like to report things I learn, but I may not always get things right so be wary of anything you read anywhere and never take anything as the gospel. I think Your blog is fine and you are a good blogger, you made me comment didn’t you?
