Firestorm Forum Was Certainly Short Lived
I was reading the firestorm forum a minute ago and when I clicked back it was gone and this was in it’s place.

Cats with Thumbs has had their ability to post suspended. I’m tired of this. I tried to create a place you guys could speak out, and you used it to attack the people who make this place possible.
No further discussion on this is permitted. No users will be removed from EC, however I can and will remove the ability to post to the forum based on behavior from this moment on. Criticism to me personally via PM is not subject to this rule.
The forums here are failing to serve their purpose. We will do what we have to to restore that purpose.
I was a little surprised, but not really that much because I read Cats With Thumbs last post and it wasn’t very nice and there was a very hostile feeling where I hadn’t really felt that before the dam burst open with Scratchin Post and that’s sad. Hopefully things will calm down, but who knows.
I really can’t say much because I really haven’t been that involved in the forums so I really have missed all the hostility that was said to be taking place. Every time I stopped in an read it seemed okay to me. I’ll wait and see what transpires, I guess now I know why I basically don’t get that involved in forums.

I too am not sure whether to be upset or not - I can certainly see both sides of it. While I was not involved in the whole deal - I too sided with the Firestormers. It’s too bad - I’ve stayed with EC this long because the forums were fun but now I’m done with the forums. I suppose this is how it always happens but the EC powers that be may soon realize that the only value they ever had was in their participants. Hell - anyone can code. Will the last person out please get the lights? Cheers!

Hi Canucklehead,
It was a darn shame things escalated to such a high degree and I certainly didn’t like being called a jerk by someone that certainly knows nothing about me just because I believe in freedom of speech, however there are civil ways of speaking freely without offending other people just because you can.
As noted in some of the latter free speeches, some things in my opinion were uncalled for especially when you are in someones forum and they sounded quite rude even to me.
The inmates can not be allowed to take over and I certainly understand that, but it should have been more clear cut so everyone could understand upfront.
I wasn’t one of the firestorm inner circle, but I loved the camaraderie and fun that I observed from those that were and I enjoyed reading the fun until it got really belligerent and hostile, but I still enjoy reading their blogs and I sided with them because freedom of speech is very important, but so is respect for your fellow man.

I don’t think it would have gotten so bad if it had been handled correctly in the first place. Cats felt that he and the others were being judged by a different set of rules than people like Scratchin Post were. He could say bad things about us and nothing would happen but if we opened our mouths we got in trouble.
If they had just clearly stated the rules and asked everyone INCLUDING Scratchin Post to follow them it wouldn’t have gone so far. I do agree that Cats was taking it a little too far towards the end but I understood his frustration.

Hi Rachael,
I also understood the frustration, but we are after all grown women and men and there was no need for all the mud slinging and innuendos on both parts. It did get pretty foul toward the end and that’s a shame. You take care of yourself and I’m sure things will work out the way they are suppose to. you still have your friends and that’s a good thing.

I totally agree with Rachel’s points. Even to this day I do not feel that Graham really values and respects the members that have helped to build that community. As a result I too have refrained from joining in the forums for now (after what has happened).
I know Phi meant well and I feel sorry for him because I know his intentions were in the right place.
But they really should have applied the same rules and expectations they had of their members when using the forums - and apply this to everyone involved.

Hi Marie,
It’s a pity that we humans let ego rule and we all have the need to be right. I really don’t know Graham or any of the other members that well, but I do read a lot of their blogs and like them, yours included.
For the most part I like to watch people interact and I found a lot of fun there at the forum. I don’t like censorship and seeing something deleted even if it is your forum, that’s just not right.
I will say even though I sided with the firestormers point of view, I didn’t agree with all the name calling, that to me was unadult and uncalled for.
