I love reading your blog and I don’t look down on free blogs unless your trying to teach me how to make money and you can’t even afford hosting.

@ Little Entreprenuer… I remember the geocity sites although I never had one. There seems to be an audience for digital filth as you call it so the best anyone can do is to filter what is shown on our own computers.

I’ve known people who have been using blogger for years and have some of the best blogs on the net. They simply never transitioned because they don’t have to. They have readers and if they are trying to make money, they make enough to satisfy them. Paying for a domain name and hosting only adds to the costs of the blogger.

Technically the way Entrecard is supposed to work is that you drop your card on a blog you like. Blogs that don’t update shouldn’t be on your list. There are plenty of people who update their blog daily who use Entrecard, you just have to spend some time looking for those great blogs, just like everything else!

I am wondering when the day will come when someone will clean up all the digital filth lying around. There’s far too much crap- not just on blogger, but on all the sites, including the original homesteading geocity sites if anyone remembers that far back

I get highly amused when people look down upon others who use a free blogging platform. As a previous comment was made “that a real blogger doesn’t use blogger”… please…. what a bunch of BS. I’ve been blogging for over 6 years between countless blogs, all with blogger. Paying for a domain doesn’t make you a “real” blogger. I currently have 5 blogs with blogger and I’d put my content, quality wise, up against anyone.

I agree, some bloggers obviously aren’t really into blogging at blogspot. I have my own domain name also, 2 of them, and I pay for hosting. However, I have lost 5 blogs due to hosting providers (I’ve used several) upgrading without my knowledge and once due to server failure. One of them provided an automated daily backup, but they backed up an empty blog the day after they lost everything. So, instead of logging in myself and backing up and downloading every single day, I decided to save myself the time and go with Blogger. I have never lost a single post with them.

I have my own domain and pay for hosting. I have a few sites actually. I choose blogger for my blog not because it is free or because I do not know what I am doing. I choose blogger because Google tends to give Blogger blogs higher page rank. Everytime I make a blog post it is on the first page of results for it’s topic for a few days. Usually my posts show up at around the 5th listing. Even though I have only had the blog for a little over a month it does better in page rank than my other sites.

I agree with Lee, Good original blogs far outnumber the splogs. Mostly chain droppers maintain splogs so you tend to notice them more often.

I agree with most of what you say .

In particular, it is a bit frustrating when some blogs appear to be updated very infrequently, yet their owners are still dropping entrecards all over the place . That in turn encourages you to go there, but there’s no new content . And yet Entrecard encourages visitors to read blogs !

Maybe some mechanism could be arrived at where you can only drop cards if you’ve updated your blog .
