Why I Bounce From Your Blog So Quickly

I have become a skimmer. I wish I could speed read then I could read more, but unless a headline really reaches out and grabs me and makes me want to read the whole post then I simply skim. I like short posts and to the point even though with  some of mine I get carried away.

I refuse to even try to read a post with a dark background because it bothers my eyes and they are strained enough and I totally bounce right on by when bloggers have all their words running together instead of making paragraphs for me.

I also don’t stay very long on blogs that are obviously just here for the money even though I like making money myself some blogs simply go overboard with the site totally covered in ad blocks (AdSense, Yahoo and that type) especially when that’s the first thing I see instead of content.

When music starts up on me or it takes forever to load because of graphics and widgets I figure they really don’t want me to visit so I leave. I have a hard time focusing on a sales page because they are way too long and if they don’t tell me the price and what it will do for me in the first 2 paragraphs then I’m not interested.

I also have a problem when dropping Entrecards because many blogs hide them at the bottom or hide them in a block of other ads that fill the sideboard and when I have to hunt for that widget I’m certainly not going to stick around and read anything because by then I’m suspicious and wonder what else they hide.

Overly busy sites confuse me because there is just too much stuff jumping off the page at me. I’m actually thinking about removing the mybloglog widget because I think I have too many faces all together of course I could make it fewer rolls for both then maybe it would be better.

It’s important to use graphics for the visual and to explain a point your making, which I seldom do, but sometimes with all those graphics the blog simply wont load. I love looking at photo blogs and when they load quickly and use captions for me then I’m happy and I’ll stay longer.

Okay that’s enough about why I bounce quickly from some blogs and stay longer at others.

I enjoyed reading this post and I wonder if you bounce from my blog too?

I am guilty of some of the things you mentioned but then I also have some positives..so next time you visit my blog would you let me know if my blog is sticky or bouncy in your eyes? Thanks!

I hope some of these blog owners read your post. They have good writing on many of them, but I can’t get past the widgets and ads to read it.

I do the same sort of thing. If the first sentence or two doesn’t catch my attention, either because it is uninteresting, or because it is buried in too much other stuff, I usually don’t stick around.

I know that my site loads slowly, and that I lose some readers that way, but I am glad you dropped a card on me.

I like dropping cards and sites that use MyBlogLog or BlogCatalog, because it is an easy way I can let people know that I stopped by without having to spend the time it takes to write a comment.

So, to the other commenter, don’t feel guilty. It is actually a good way to get a lot of content quickly.

Your post makes me want to write shorter, to-the-point posts. I agree with you and like reading shorter posts too. I don’t like ads popping out at me or distracting me from the content. It’s just annoying. For the record, your blog is clean and easy to read.

Hey Jude (now I’m singing that song ‘hey Jude’), I just read your little review of me and I wanted to say thanks for the honest comments and for answering my question.

Your post really is insightful and I will stumble it today. :-)

Hi Lulugal11,
You’re very welcome and I was hoping you wouldn’t mind that I made a small post out of it. I know I always like when someone gives me a link back in a post whether it’s a negative about me or a positive and thanks for the Stumble.

We’re going for a bike ride now and I feel horrible that I didn’t get much dropping done this weekend, but I’ll work on it later.

Hi Lulugal,
Thank-you for subscribing and I certainly hope you didn’t think I was seeking a link back from you from the comment I made above. That link love was giving without looking for anything in return. You have a good day.

I don’t read sites that are to wide for proper reading comfort. Like this one. :)
