When To Throw In The Affiliate Towel

At the end of the month I will be removing the banner for the free tools from Isoregister located in the sidebar. I really liked the program and for the money I paid monthly it had a lot of great tools for advertising, but since I’m not doing much advertising anymore it seems to be a waste of my money.

Originally I thought I would make money with them by getting referrals, but that hasn’t happened so after 2 years and several 100 dollars I will end this program. I really liked the CEO of this company and have to say he has been one of the most open and honest marketers I have run across.

When people first try marketing online they eventually find out that being an affiliate marketer is the easiest way to get started, but takes a lot of time to get things rolling. It works for some, but others like myself who really aren’t experts find that they make little or no money with affiliate marketing.

I like to learn new things though so I gave it a shot, but for me there was just too many things to learn to actually be a high earner. There are many marketers online that will tell you they make a good living and I don’t doubt that, but I don’t believe every claim I hear.

I guess since being online and trying my hand at it I realize how much dedication and ambition really needs to go into this type of thing and even though I would like to hit on something that I can really get behind someday, it will have to be simple because my ambition is slowly dwindling with age.

When I start a new program I always give it enough time to see if it will work for me and this one hasn’t so it’s time to cut my losses and move on. When I first started online I got involved in too many things that I couldn’t keep track of and burnt myself out for awhile. I still find the idea of making money online attractive so I will keep at it.

I Can Now Afford New Glasses

When you get older you tend to appreciate what little bit of money comes into your household and you learn to make ends meet with very little. I certainly have never thought about buying prescription glasses online, I simply looked for the cheapest places in my area and still end up paying 3 or 4 hundred dollars, my last glasses cost well over 400 dollars and I’m not insured so either I pay or Bill does.

Well guess what * Great Discovery: $ 8 Prescription Glasses From Zenni Optical * this is an online seller based in San Rafael, Ca. and they have a 50% money back guarantee plus anti scratch coating, full uv protection, hard case and other things that are included even on the $8.00 glasses.

Since I use this computer so much I’ve noticed my eyes go away more frequently and for me to be able to afford new glasses every couple years isn’t always an option so I rely on heavy duty reading glasses which I know aren’t good for my eyes and they can even cost 20 dollars or more.

Just because an Optometrist checks my eyes doesn’t mean I have to buy their glasses. I can get the prescription and take it anywhere I want. With this company I can even get the progressives I like starting at 37 dollars and shipping is only $4.95 so as far as I’m concerned this is the best option I’ve seen lately.

Alexa Redirects Don’t Work

I have seen so many people that use Alexa redirects when posting their sites link so they can lower their Alexa rank, but every time I try clicking on their link because they might have left a comment that was of interest to me and I wanted to follow up on it and visit their site, the link simply never works.

Now I don’t know if those clicks are being registered with Alexa and lowering their Rank, but I do know their page or blog or site is not being viewed by a live person at least not by me so as far as I’m concerned they are losing potential readers and customers because I stopped clicking on redirects from people using them because they never go where they are intended.

You might wonder why webmasters would even bother with Alexa ranking or you already know that the Alexa ranking system is widely used by ad networks and advertisers to determine how much a link could possibly be worth on your site, but of course if your not trying to monetize your site then it really doesn’t matter. Many sites do sell links and advertising so it’s important to lower your rank as much as possible if your trying to compete.

So many people don’t use the Alexa toolbar however and I happen to be one of them so a visit from me as far as counting in your rank wouldn’t matter, but I could be a potential customer so in that respect I would count more. The redirect as far as I can tell would count those people that don’t use the Alexa toolbar and make the visit count. This may have worked for awhile, but it isn’t working now.

I hear people discussing how easily you can game the Alexa system all the time and you can read tips all over the blogosphere on just what to do in order to lower your ranking. I personally don’t care what my Alexa rank is because I know I’m never going to get rich on the Internet, no I’m not a defeatist, I simply don’t have the marketing savvy and know how and even if I did I’m not very ambitious.

I use a few programs that I make a few bucks on so I’m happy with that, however a few years back, I tried many things that didn’t work out for me, but I never give up and I’m still here and probably will still be plugging away till the day I expire, which I’m hoping wont be in the near future. I’m sure if your worried about your Alexa redirects not working you might want to remove those till someone comes up with a fix.
