I Love The Oregon Coast
When I lived in Reno I of course met lots of people from Oregon they would come down for the week and gamble and I worked with Thelma who was from Coos Bay and she was always showing me pictures and I fail in love with the place and always vowed I would go someday, but I didn’t think it would be under bad circumstances.
When Thelma and her husband decided to divorce after 40 years she was devastated even though they had been separated and she asked me to travel with her to get things in order, but she didn’t want to stay in their old home because of the memories even though he had moved to a very impersonal hotel. Some people like hotels, but Thelma and I looked for something that was more homey and private so we had checked out the oregon coast rentals before we took off and I am horrible with directions, But I think we stayed on the central coastal and Coos Bay was North.
All I know is we had to travel quite a distance, but it was beautiful and she didn’t feel like being that close to her old stomping grounds while all the details were being worked out with the settlement anyhow. She didn’t have to be right there and she needed time to heal and I feel horrible for being so selfish, but I loved every minute of Oregon we didn’t feel obligated to be friendly and nice to people in the hotel and we came and went as we pleased without people watching our every move.
Now years later my niece married a young man from Oregon and if I’m very lucky we will be invited to go along the next time they go to visit his family and I know exactly where on the Oregon Coast Bill and I will rent and I know it will not be an impersonal hotel, but the charming rental that Thelma and I occupied so long ago.
