What In The World Is A Thoof?
Before I started on the internet when I would hear the words google and yahoo I thought they were stupid names, but they were catchy and stood out. I still have no clue what they mean and now it seems we have another one. What in the world is a Thoof? I think the name simply comes from Ian’s horse that he loves and had to leave behind in Ireland.
When Ian was young he had a horse called Thatcher and he had a very bad hoof that kept splitting and getting infected and they thought they were going to lose him, but Ian and the vet finally nursed him back and he became a champion racer. Since his horse proved to be a champion he decided his new venture would also succeed an become a champion. So he combined the initial T with hoof and produced a catchy tribute to his horse and it makes people curious to check out the site like I did.
The 3 names have a common bond and that is the double oo’s in each so that’s a good omen, but does that mean that all three are watching us and studying us?
Well I had no idea what the site was about at first because the name simply didn’t imply or convey anything to me. So I checked it out and low and behold you’d never guess unless you had already read about it. It’s a personalized news site. It’s definitely a good way to get traffic to your site and is reminiscent of Sk*rt for women.
You can submit your articles and then you can add a ThoofRank Badge so people can see what the other members think of the articles that you have submitted and if someone that is registered doesn’t think it sounds right for some reason they can edit the summary or title or tags and then it gets voted on by the other members to see if it should be changed, a bit like Wikipedia. The badge shows your ranking for the article and 50% and over is really good.
I just registered and I usually don’t read a lot of news or just skim over it, but this is kind of cool. According to your past interests, the site has the capability of determining the type of stories you would like ( yup their studying and watching us) and as you scroll down the page the stories just keep popping up like a never ending hole and it just keeps going and going and going. If you don’t like a certain type of article you can hide it, you can send them to your friends and add tags. I don’t do digg, but I think I’ll start thoofing because I love horses.
