What Is Your Purpose For Creating An Online Presence?
Aug 22nd, 2007 Posted in Online Marketing | no comment »What is your sole purpose in creating an online presence? Is it for making money, socializing, creativity, or because you want to help people and give them the knowledge that you have. Most people will probably have a combination of all the above.
When I first started my website it was a personal one so my online friends could see who I really was, but then I decided I would try to make a living by creating a business site. I had absolutely no clue of what I was doing, but at least I had a goal. I was very new to marketing online and I joined numerous affiliate programs, mlm’s, bought information products, downloaded tons of free ebooks and tools from clubs I joined and giveaways. Did I read all of that information and use it?
Nope it is still sitting on my hard drive taking up space, unread and forgotten about. I know most of it is totally useless now a days, but yet I still hang onto it promising myself I will get around to it later. I know a lot of you are the same. It is totally useless to give out your email address to 50 thousand people for something you are not going to utilize and then have all those marketing opportunities sent to you day in and day out unless you use a free account and then just delete the whole thing.
My yahoo account gets hundreds and hundreds of marketing requests, spam, and advertisements everyday and that reminds me I need to go in there and unsubscribe from all those people because I like that free email account and I never used any of those free products anyway so it was a huge waste of my time. That is something I definitely stopped my self from doing. I never sign up for give aways now.
At one point I was also a member of a forum that had a special group formed and each member paid 5 dollars a month. In theory the money was to be used encase another member had a hardship and needed help quickly, which did happen once and that was cool that we could help and in return she gave us lifetime memberships to her site which she didn’t have to do.
I checked the site and thought it was well done, but the only problem I had was not being able to promote it for her, because I already had every bit of information she had and I was also an affiliate for every program that she was promoting. I guess that was selfish of me, but my intent for using the Internet had shifted for me and the marketing I was trying to do was the same as hers.
This forum was also suppose to work together and help each other online in different projects that everyone voted on. Now I don’t know all of the details and how it was worked out and I really didn’t know if it was ethical at the time and still don’t know if the main purchaser of the forum had made it clear to the product creator that this purchase was intended for a group project or not. But it didn’t matter because I hated “Day Job Killer ” anyhow. I soon dropped out of that group.
I’m sure we have all gotten involved with bad programs and made a lot of bad choices, but at least hopefully we have learned to be more selective in how we spend our time and money now. So many people go in debt chasing that illusive dream of getting rich on the Internet. There are a lot of great free tools out there and information on every subject under the sun all we need to do is try to think and act as an entrepreneur would and take action. All we need is that one great idea, which sadly I must admit still eludes me and I’m still working on my online presence.
