Violent Crimes Against Our Loved Ones
Monday night my niece was attacked in her home. She is 37 years old and did not lock her door. They live out more in the country than I do and maybe they just feel safer there. She was asleep on the couch and my sister and the other people of the household were asleep upstairs.
This man entered while she was asleep on the couch and stabbed her in the shoulder and then slashed her throat. Thank God his aim wasn’t perfect and she was treated and released Tuesday evening. I do not know all the circumstances because my family and I are not that close, but she did call our brother and he called me.
From what I understand from all the news reports on TV they are looking for a heavy set man with a baseball cap and fatigue pants around 6 feet tall and Caucasian. I come from a very dysfunctional family and we are not very close, but dammit that’s blood and violence is not acceptable.
We think these things can’t happen to us and our family, but they do and it is happening more and more. What do we do to combat these violent crimes against our loved ones? How do we change the system to take care of us and the people we love?
I am not great with lobbying, but I may just change my mind. There is war every where and not just in Iraq. We see it in our streets and we have to do something to change it. I know people are working everyday to help our nation and it’s a great nation we live in. but just a handful can’t change anything. We have to work together.
