Would You Be Able To Survive ?
This is a sponsored ad from Burn Notice and the question being asked is, are you a survivor and how would you manage if you were stranded in a strange city with no resources or money? There is a new series coming out USA Network’s Burn Notice and of course they have clever people that will show us how their hero would survive under similar circumstances. My answer to this question is below and I have wondered about this before so that’s why I am responding to this query.
No one likes having to ask for a hand out, but there is nothing wrong with asking for a hand up. You can always repay any kindness at a later date. What goes around, comes around. My first course of action would be to head for a mission, the Red Cross and any churches around and ask for help. They usually have a list of places that can help you and I would also put my faith in God that he would provide as he always has.
I know how to waitress, tend bar, cook, and do hair, but being stranded in a strange city and without their state license I would only be able to be a shampoo person and I would apply at as many places as I could and explain my circumstances. Believe it or not there are more kind people in the world than the news media and papers would have you believe. I don’t like the idea of being a panhandler, thief, or prostitute so those three would not be an option for me.
When I lived in Reno I saw homeless people everywhere. When I would go to work in the mornings I saw them coming out of cardboard boxes, from under the bridge and I always saw them lined up at the mission for meals so I know I could at least count on that for awhile till I got on my feet and I’m sure the church and Red Cross would help with clothes. If the weather was bad then I guess I would check out the malls.
I have often wondered about all those homeless people. I was semi stranded once, but I wasn’t alone and we did have a car and things to sell or trade for gas and food until I found a job and I could always depend on my brother to send money. Also there’s a lot to be said for the barter system. You can usually find someone that has some dirty work they don’t like doing in exchange for something.
