Are Unions Too Greedy ?

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

I have respect for unions because they do help and protect the workers, but sometimes I think they get carried away with greed.

I live in York, Pa. and a few years back we lost Caterpillar because strikers were holding out for more benefits and money. That was one of the best plants to work for in York. It provided good income for many families here for a long time. Even clean up people started out at $14. an hr or more.

Now our other great plant is Harley Davidson and now they are striking. They pay great wages and have great benefits. This strike is going to affect alot of other businesses, not just in York, but in Canada and other places. Sometimes I think these things are just power struggles between union leaders and the CEO’s of the company. The workers will end up suffering in the long run. There is a place for unions, but they should stay in there place and protect their workers not get greedy and try to over use their power to ruin something good.

I hate to think what will happen if this plant and these union leaders can’t come to terms. I think it could get very ugly. I hate to think about all these families that will have to suffer over this strike.

How much is too much? We live in a country of great wealth and freedom, but we get spoiled and greedy and want more more more. Do we appreciate the things we have or do we just take them for granted? Money will not make you happy, but it can make you comfortable while your being miserable.
