Shadow and Sadie

I have 2 dogs and a stray cat. Shadow is my American Eskimo and Sadie is my mixed pit / lab. I love to watch “The Dog Whisperer” that man has so much knowledge and understanding of the behavior of our canine friends.. It’s fascinating to watch him in action. Guess that’s why his show is a hit.

I have had Shadow since 7 weeks. He is now over 8 years. He has not always been such a docile and sweet dog. When he was a pup, he was mean and aggressive and I had to let him know I was the pack leader, not him. Took alot of patience and work, but I did it. If you could see him do wolf mouth it would scare you to death. He does that to Sadie when she bothers him.

I had him fixed when he was 3 months old and sometimes I regret that, but early neutering can also help control or altogether eliminate certain behavior in the male dog. Behaviors such as spraying, marking and the desire to run away are very much linked to a dog’s hormones. Without such hormone production, your dog is less likely to develop these behaviors. Neutering your male dog could also render him easier to handle in social situations where other dogs are present. He will be less likely to show aggression toward other male dogs and will not be compelled to try and breed with an available female, even if she is in heat, All these things hold true for most dogs, but not always. Shadow  was the opposite to everything listed above.

The older he gets the more I realise I would love to have a little Shadow running around for as long as I live. I hate thinking about the loss, but I can’t help myself because I am sort of depressing. I have really worked hard on that. I will post about Sadie and Stalker at a later date. If you would like to see my pets you can visit them here.
