Overview of Newborn Baby Care

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Newborn care can really be stressful. Many parents feel overwhelmed by the knowledge that their new baby boy or girl is solely dependent upon them. The key to newborn care is education. Educating yourself about what your baby will need to stay healthy and safe can take much of the stress and anxiety out of your pending birth.  Here is a general overview of the top newborn care tips.

* You should be very selective when choosing a pediatrician for your unborn baby. Do not hesitate to set up an interview with prospective pediatricians. During the interview process feel free to ask any questions you may have about the doctor’s practice. What are their hours? Do they specialize in certain childhood diseases? What if your baby needs to be seen after hours?

* Make sure you have purchased an infant car seat well before your due date. You should install the car seat into your car well before you have your first contraction. This will ensure that you know how to use the car seat properly so your baby will be safe on his or her first ride in a vehicle.  If you are having problems figuring out how to install the car seat you can ask a friend who is more experienced with baby equipment to help you. If no one is available, simply call your local fire department. They will send someone out to help you learn what you need to know about car seat safety.

* Another part of newborn care is deciding whether you will bottle or breastfeed your new baby. Some parents choose to do both. If you do decide to breastfeed and you have problems, contact your local La Leche League. They will send someone out to your home to help you and your baby. If your baby is having problems bottle feeding or having problems digesting his or her formula, go to your baby’s pediatrician with your concerns.

* Once you bring your baby home it is important that you never leave him or her unattended on a changing table, bed or couch. Babies move suddenly, especially when they are startled. Part of newborn care involves making sure your baby is safe and secure at all times.

* If you have a boy baby, part of newborn care will include taking special care of his circumcision. You should change your son’s diaper as soon as he soils it. This will keep his circumcision area from becoming soiled. To keep your son’s diaper from sticking to his circumcision area you should apply either petroleum jelly or an antibiotic ointment to it.  You should contact your baby’s pediatrician if you notice anything abnormal about his circumcision. This includes swelling, crusted sore, drainage, bleeding, black, blue or discolored penis, redness that lasts more than a couple of days, foul odor, dribbling or weak urine or if your baby develops a fever.

* Another area of newborn care for all babies is caring for their umbilical cord stumps. You should make sure that your baby’s diaper does not tug on the umbilical cord stumps. You should never pull or tug on the stump itself. It will fall off on its own. Some pediatricians recommend that alcohol be swabbed onto the stump during diaper changes. Some doctors simply recommend using warm water. You should talk with your baby’s pediatrician to see what he or she recommends for your baby. You should take your baby to the doctor if you notice any swelling, bulging, blood or pus around the naval. You should also take your baby to the doctor if the stump has not fallen off by the third week.

If you are preparing to have a baby, you should seriously consider enrolling in newborn care classes. These classes cover all the basics and more. After completing one or more of these classes you should be on your way to being a newborn care expert!

Are You Already Marketing On The Internet?

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Take a moment to think about how you would really answer this question. If given enough thought just about any business owner who utilizes the Internet for any purpose will likely find that whether or not they intentionally organized an Internet marketing campaign, they may already be marketing their products and services on the Internet. This article will examine some subtle ways business owners may already be marketing their business on the Internet.

Do you have a website for your business? Business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their products or services online just by virtue of the fact that they have a website online. Having a live website means there is the potential for curious Internet users to access your website. You may not be actively promoting your website but you may still find that your website generates interest in your products despite the lack of promotional endeavors; this is a form of passive marketing.

Do you participate in message boards and include a link to your website in your signature? Again business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their website online. Savvy business owners realize the importance of participation in industry related message boards to create an interest in their products and services, establish themselves as knowledgeable about the industry and offer a link to their own website even if it is in the signature line of their posts. However, even business owners who do not realize this may already be inadvertently enjoying the benefits of Internet marketing which result from message board participation just by doing something they enjoy and may be doing as a form of leisure activity.

Do you include keywords which are relevant to your business in the content of your website? Business owners who answer yes to this question are also already marketing on the Internet by optimizing their website for these keywords. These search engine optimization (SEO) affects the websites whether or not they were even aware of the concept of keyword density and how it can help to SEO a website. Business owners will likely use certain words often depending on the type of products and services they offer just because it is natural and logical to do so. This tendency, however, can result in search engines boosting your website rankings for these particular keywords. The concept of SEO is much more involved and complex than simply using keywords frequently but business owners can gain some benefit just by naturally applying relevant keywords to their website.

Do you solicit feedback from your customers online? This is yet another example of how business owners may be accidentally marketing their business on the Internet. Most business owners realize the importance of soliciting feedback from customers for business purposes and business owners who offer products online might solicit feedback in the form of online surveys. Although the business owners may be doing this simply for a business purpose the fact that it is done online makes it fall into the category of Internet marketing.

We have already discussed several ways in which business owners may already be marketing online but what about business owners who want to have an increased online presence? Business owners who may already be marketing online accidentally may wish to launch a full scale Internet marketing campaign. The best way to do this is to hire a consultant with experience in Internet marketing to assist you in creating a campaign which is effective for your target audience.

Pet Allergies

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Allergies affect millions of people each year. An allergy to pet dander is one of the most common types. They can cause you to feel very uncomfortable. Symptoms include watery eyes, dry mouth, and itchy skin. More severe symptoms include hives, asthma attacks, and difficulty breathing.  Ironically, a person can have a dog for a length of time without any symptoms. Then suddenly, they begin. It never crosses their mind that the dog is the allergen.

If you want to keep your dog, but reduce the effects it has on you, a HEPA filter might be beneficial. It removes particles from the air. This will reduce the amount of dander around your home. Vacuum your carpet daily and your curtains monthly. This will reduce the dander in your home as well. Some people believe washing their dog daily will fight dander. That is not true. In fact, the more you bathe your dog, the more dander will appear. You should only wash your dog about once a month. If these things don’t reduce your symptoms enough to make you comfortable, consult your doctor about allergy shots or medications.

If you already suffer from allergies, but want to get a dog, consider a breed that sheds their skin slowly including poodles and schnauzers. The breeds that shed their skin the fastest and should be avoided include cocker spaniels and basket hounds. You might also consider getting an outdoor dog. This will reduce the symptoms you feel while in your home.

If you have to give your dog to a good home because your allergies are out of control, thoroughly vacuum and shampoo carpets. Wash your curtains and walls. Remove any toys and bedding the dog had contact with. Your allergy symptoms may continue for up to 3 months after this has all been done.

Allergies from your dog can be a nuisance, but they can be controlled by following these simple tips to make your home more agreeable with your allergies. Feeding your dog quality dog food can also reduce dander particles because it keeps their coat shiny and healthy.
