I had a beauty student in Pennsylvania ask me about her credits and how long they were required to be kept so I found the following question and answer on the state board site. Anyone can usually find the information they need by contacting their state board or at least checking the official site for their state.
* Q: My school says they cannot find my hours. I took the class in the early 90’s and I am now ready to test. What can I do?.
A: Schools are required to keep student records for seven (7) years. These records must be avail to the student upon request. If the hours earned are more than seven years old, it is possible that they may not be able to be recovered. If the time frame is less than seven years, you may file a complaint against the school with the Office of Professional Compliance at 1-800-822-2113.
Also someone else wanted to know about the reciprocity and whether or not PA participated in the NIC so the information listed below is for them and was also found on the PA state board site.
Reciprocity (licensure without examination) can be granted to individuals licensed in those states with which Pennsylvania has an understanding of reciprocity. To qualify for licensure by reciprocity, an individual must have a current license and two (2) years of working experience from the original licensure date. If the applicant does not meet the requirements for reciprocity, the Pennsylvania examination (theory and practical) must be successfully completed.

I graduated from the cosmetology program in ny in June 2008 I am moving to Florida and was wondering if I could get my license there?
Hello to everyone,
I went to school in Texas. I graduated in Feb of this year. (2011) My family and I move to Arkansas
The day after I graduated. I have taken my written and Passed. But in June will be taking my practical.
I studied for the Texas Practical but it is different from Arkansas in a few ways. I know that in
Arkansas you don’t do Mani’s or Facials. No models. But while I have looked at the Arkansas state
Website I think I am not properly prepared. I was wanting to know if anyone recently took the test
Or if some one could help me understand just what I will be tested on and how to prep my bag.
Like it wasn’t clear on things like- do they test on finger waves and pin curls in Ark.
Do they do the one roller test at the top of the head?
When they say you do 3 curls on the side of the head and 3 on top with thermal curling
Are those 3 curls on the side vertical or horizontal?
Perm section do you do 6 or 8 rods on the center of the head from the crown down to the
Nap?
And on those do you still need to section out a 9 section if you are doing the 6 or 8 in the
Center?
Basically I am look for some one to help break it down so that I am as ready for
The Arkansas state board as I was for Texas.
I asked the people at Arkansas state board but they only sent me the info that I already
Read and it just isn’t as clear as I need it to be.
So if anyone could help me understand it I would be grateful! I even asked people on you tube
Who tested here and videoed it but got no answers.
I want to be ready and totally be ready.
Thanks for any and all help.
Did u pass? and also if i live in ga and have my licence do u know if i can trasfer them to a state with lesser hours? is there a certiain time period for this?
