I’ve Been Very Lucky With My Pets

November 9th, 2008

I’ve been very lucky with my pets as far as them getting sick and I’ve had my American Eskimo for over 10 years. I took him to the vet Friday for his shots and the mini checkup he normally gets and when the vet checked his ears he found Shadow had an infection, poor old guy.

I had noticed lately that his balance has been off, but I contributed that to the aging process because my balance is off at times also. I have no clue how long the little guy might have been suffering with this, but in retrospect he has been trying to clean his ears more often than usual.

I hate to think I might have let him needlessly suffer because I wasn’t paying closer attention. At any rate they gave me a bottle of ear wash which I have to use twice a week and then squirt the medicine in both ears and massage the ear canal to make sure it’s coated.

We have to do this for 10 days and I can already see a big difference in his attitude and walk already. The next thing is to tackle his paws because I hate clipping his nails because I’m afraid I’ll cut to close. I don’t have to worry about Sadie’s because she chews them off herself and besides she would probably bite me I don’t trust her.

So guess what I bought yesterday at Walgreens? Yes, indeedy I bought a PediPaw and a 12 pack of replacement tops for only 21 dollars. I kept seeing this advertised on TV and now I finally took the time to get one and tonight is the big night to try it out. I know I’ll have a fight all the way, but I can’t wait to use it.

He really has a hard time walking on the wood floors and ceramic tile in the kitchen so this will help out and with his infection on the mend he’ll hopefully be like his old self in no time. Other than the unbalance of late I had no clue my old guy was sick because he wasn’t whining, I now feel like a bad Mommy.

You have to tell us if the PediPaw works! My DD has been telling me and telling me we should get that – our dog won’t let us clip his nails and chews them off himself like your Sadie. I keep telling her it probably doesn’t work as good as they show it on tv, so I’m anxious to hear if it really does work….

    Hi Carole,
I used the PediPaw tonight and I loved it, but Bill had to hold him while I used it. I watched the video at their site so I would use it right. It’s like a dremel actually and the plastic cover captures all the particles, I wish I had bought it long ago.

It is hard to tell when an animal is unwell as they cannot tell us and you should not feel guilty. glad he is getting better and good luck with the pedicure!

Thanks Mark Snce he is feeling better I’m just grateful it was found before it got really complicated, we had a bit of hassle with the pedicure, but it worked out fine and his nails are at least shorter now.
