I have never been very creative when it comes to picking a costume for Halloween, but when I was a child it was fun using my mom’s makeup and just smearing it all over and wearing her clothes and the last time I dressed up it was mandatory where I worked so I decided to go as a Redskin Fan with my sweatshirt, leather cap, Redskin sunglasses with eyeballs and everything else Redskin that I owned.
Halloween costume stores would have been great so I could have gotten a few ideas, but around here there isn’t much for adults to choose from so we have to order online. I don’t think we are going to any parties this year, but the grandkids get dressed up and do the trick-or-treat thing. Bill’s son always likes to at least decorate his face and put a costume on his dog and now that he has kids he takes them out.
Bill has fun sitting on the porch handing out treats. We need to find some nutritious snacks to hand out instead of candy bars even though I know the parents usually eat it. When Eric was small I looked forward to seeing his little face light up with excitement and greed at all the booty he was collecting.
Some neighborhoods have of course banned trick-or-treating and hold community parties instead, it’s just not the same though. Mean spirited people have managed to ruin the fun of Halloween over the years and parents are always on guard for those that try to hurt their children.
Many adults look forward to this holiday more so than their children these days because of all the parties, but it also gives them a chance to live and revisit their childhood through their children.
