Give Me Beauty Or Give Me Death

September 9th, 2008

I don’t watch a lot of television, but the other night I watched a movie and I can’t even remember the name, but the part that got me was this serial killer had removed a woman’s nose and bandaged her up then glued a phone to one hand and a bottle of sleeping pills to the other. So he gave her the choice to call for help and live disfigured or end her life.

Of course as the script was written he had cut her nose off to spite her face and her choice was of course sleeping pills. There are so many people that think they have to be beautiful in order to live, what in the world is wrong with people? I know what’s wrong with people and so do you, judgement. We judge people everyday on how they look, how they dress, what kind of car they drive, etcetera.

I am so happy not to be young and I’ve gotten to the point that I really don’t care what other people think about my looks or me, I love my wrinkles. It took me many years to get to this point in my life and I’m much happier, but I’m sad for the youth growing up because every where they turn it’s about beauty and being fashionable and what you have. It should be about who they are not how they look, but we humans are a vain lot.

Everyone is expected to look a certain way and all the same to fit in. Individuality as far as I’m concerned is more acceptable, but then I was always different. Even the older generation are made to feel like they can’t age gracefully and many feel the need to have cosmetic surgery and botox to hide wrinkles. I have mentioned before about the shocking appearance of many of the older entertainers and it’s so sad.

That is certainly not setting a good example for our youth. It merely confirms what they are being taught on a daily bases that in order to get by and be accepted in this world you must have the appearance of youth even if you make a laughing stock out of yourself. I wonder which choice some of those entertainers would make, phone for help and live with disfigurement or the bottle of sleeping pills, scary thought.

Jude, I agree. And I wanted to say that I admire your decision to quit coloring your hair. Maybe some day I will. (I will try not to write too much on my comment – I get carried away sometimes and write a book…lol )

    Hi Charla,
So nice to see you. I hope everything is well with you. So long as coloring your hair doesn’t become too big of a hassle and expense do what makes you happy and feel better. Bless you, you can write as much as you want.

  3. I admire your strength to say no more! Corporate American and society have dictated to us for eons what is beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! If look at history beauty has been forever changing to fit the era we live in. Now days we are down to skin and bones!!! We need to learn how to honor the different phases of beauty as we grow in wisdom and knowledge.
