Are Your Post Being Scraped?
I was very surprised when I checked my blog this morning and saw an incoming link which said Honda Rebel so I went to check and see who was linking back to me and below is what I saw. They had taken my whole post and put it on their blog, but it did have a link back to me, but they had added a photo and a couple of lines of their own at the end of my post.
What was surprising to me was that I saw an Entrecard widget and thought what the heck? I debated all day about what I should do, but didn’t decide on a plan of action. It’s okay if someone wants to use something of mine, but ask first and don’t take the whole thing unless I give permission. I don’t mind a quote or portion being used with a link back to my original post.
I forgot about the episode until I was dropping EC’s for another blog and happened upon the same blog, but what surprised me was the following where the widget had been this morning:

Sorry but I no longer belong to Entrecard. They dropped me. They say I am a scraper site.

Now I find that hilarious because didn’t this person know that you don’t use another persons blog post as your own even if you do give a link back and not ask permission. At any rate they must have scrapped other blogs and someone reported them. I’m not sure what I was going to do. I still may ask them to take it down. I hate when this happens. Been there. Feels awful, doesn’t it? I share your belief that it’s OK if you post an excerpt and point back to the original entry. Some people are so lazy. I’m glad they were caught, at least by EC. I had a worse thing happen to me. Someone took entire pieces of my work and rewrote parts to make it sound like they were her experiences. She locked me out after I complained. For all I know,she’s still doing it.
I caught someone scraping my content- they ran it through a cheap re-writer, it was a copy and paste job, and no link back! I got them banned from adsense, and the site quickly disappeared. If they have google ads on their site, they will get permanently banned for click fraud if you click on their ads a lot for a few days.
How terrible, I’ve had images scrapped off my blog without so much as a thank you, and the irony is that the person that stole your content was on the forums complaining about the scrapper accusation and entrecard shutting down their account.
I agree that it is ridiculous to lift anyones content especially without asking, I would definitely ask the person to take it down so you don’t get seen as the scrapper.

I was just laughing because if that guy wants people to think he and Bill are a couple then more power to him. I don’t really think people will think I am a scraper because he did leave my link to the original post and I talk about my Bill and things in my life all the time. I just think it’s a nuisance and can’t figure out why something I blog about might trigger a scraper especially someone that drops cards for EC….Go figure..

Thanks for stopping and sharing with me I really appreciate it. I don’t click on ads as a rule Mr. Hoax so I doubt I would do so to get someone in trouble. What goes around comes around. That’s horrible Kathy and she probably is still doing it just because she can…. You guys have a great weekend.
