Is Happiness Just A Fleeting Thing?
Finding happiness and holding on to it seems to be quite difficult for many people. I have known people that appear happy all the time even in a bad situation and they always remind me of that saying, “When life gives you lemons, then make lemonade.” People always seem suspicious of other peoples happiness and envious if their life isn’t so happy at the time.
I try to see the bright side when something bad happens and I try to make the best of a bad situation, but sometimes depending on how I feel I don’t. I have discovered that the happiest people are definitely optimists and if you can see the lighter side of life you will be doing yourself a favor. Laughter and exercise release endorphins in the brain naturally and make you feel happy.
If we could lighten up and try seeing the good and positive instead of the negative that would accomplish a healthier mind and body. Most people that are truly happy have a true sense of purpose in their life. Those people with a passion in their life are usually very happy people. For many you will see that faith in God brings happiness and content.
People have to have hope, if you give up hope then what’s left? Despair, a sense of futility or defeat and depression sets in. If we can consciously start looking for the brighter side in every situation instead of instantly thinking something won’t work we could think about how it could. We will be letting go of the negative and reinforcing the positive.
Make a list of all the things in your life that you are blessed with and be thankful for them. Being thankful and grateful goes a long way to that happiness we seek. Truly happy people I have noticed are givers who have hope for the future and a sense of purpose. Giving does bring joy if it’s done for the sole purpose of just giving without strings.
Just to see a troubled face break into a smile is very satisfying. It’s simple to give even if it’s just a kind word or a smile, but some people are very stingy with even those, so knock it off and give those simple things away, you will be rewarded. Giving your time to someone is a great gift better even than material things in some cases. Although material things are nice too.
Donating toys and food is a great feeling for anyone, just knowing you’re helping someone in a real way will make your heart feel great and will make you feel happy inside. Be sure to nurture those special relationships with family and friends, but do yourself a favor and dump any negative relationships that do nothing except bring you down and make you miserable.
Happiness does mean many things for many different people and we can consciously develop ways to find true happiness by seeking the positive. More about this subject tomorrow.
