Superficial Remarks About Appearance Ticks Me Off

jude8753 | Beauty Within | Saturday, 12 April 2008

As a rule I succumb to the idea that everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can either take it or leave it, which I invariably do, but there is one thing that I have a problem with and whether I decide to comment about it is my option to do and that is making superficial comments about someones appearance.

For whatever my reasons are they are mine and I find it totally offensive for someone to joke and make fun of the way someone looks or how they dress. Anything is possible with money and you can change many things, but why should you feel you have to just to appease someone else’s ideas of what you should and shouldn’t wear or how you have to wear your make-up and hair in a certain way.

Our society has come to the conclusion that it is ok to say whatever we please and push the envelope to the extreme, but I don’t agree and that is my prerogative same as yours. If you think it’s okay to hurt a fellow human being then I guess it really doesn’t matter what I say, but think about it, are you a perfect specimen without faults and how would you stand up to ridicule and hurt?

Even though I’m not a Bible thumper I certainly agree with ” Let He Without Sin Cast The First Stone,” meaning is there really anyone out there that is so perfect in looks and every other aspect that they are truly qualified to judge? I think not! Remember the old saying that goes ” Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Now that is an out an out fallacy.

Words can cut you to the bone and cripple the whole reality of your  human being. The misuse and abusive usage of words can have devastating effects on our human ego. You should always remember that if you’re in the public eye you leave yourself wide open for ridicule, scorn and total envy for your position in life.

Maybe we smile brightly and claim we are so happy for someone, but in all honesty can you say that and truly mean it or do you really wish it were you? I really don’t understand how humans would rather help tear something down than to build it up, is attack the strongest thing we have been taught?
