Many young people in high school will have many decisions to contend with about what they are going to be doing with the rest of their lives. Which career is going to suit them and where they will be going to college or if they will opt for a trade school. Guidance counselors will be helping you figure out where your aptitude lies.
You have so many more choices now than I did back in 68. I couldn’t even take a mechanical drawing class because I was the only female and was deemed a distraction. Now a days the school system wouldn’t be able to deny me, but back then apparently they could. Depending on what you are looking for you should keep all options open.
One option you should explore is a co-op education, where you can actually apply what you are learning in a work environment, 3 months academic and then 3 months actual work and it starts in your freshman year to actually give you the experience you will need in the real world. Kettering University is a leader in mechanical engineering and it’s worth investigating. The money you earn in the co-op program is yours and can be as much as 65,000.
US News Best Colleges of 2008 have picked Kettering University as “the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, this makes the 8th year that they have been ranked by the “U.S. News & World Report.” You should speak with your counselor and see what they have to say about this college.
Below is one of the Stickman recruiting videos that I chose because of the message for high school students and if I had the chance to do anything over it would be to get a better education in a field other than cosmetology, even though beauty school was something I was always interested in, unless you have a unique talent then your options really are limited.
