Is it time for a woman to run this country? Seems to me women have been running the country behind the scene forever. I think it is time to have one in the forefront making decisions and I think Hilliary would make a fine President, but that’s just my opinion and I’m not a registered Democrat. As a rule I don’t discuss politics and I’m not now, I simply think we need a change and I hope she beats out McCain and Obama.
There have been several other women that have run for president in the past such as Lenora Fulani who ran for the New Alliance Party in 1988. Victoria Woodhull was an American suffragist who ran in 1872. She was nominated by the Equal Rights Party. Gracie Allen, George Burns wife also ran for President – for the “Surprise party” – in 1940.
Charlene Mitchell ran in 1968, and was the first woman to run for U.S. President while representing the Communist party. Linda Jenness and Evelyn Reed both ran for President in 1972 under the Socialist Workers Party. Margaret Wright ran for the People’s party, which was Socialist in 1976.
I think it’s time for a change and I think we would finally get the Clinton we should have had in the first place and I appreciate that she chaired the Task Force on National Health Care Reform, was instrumental in the formation of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program of 1997, helped create the Office on Violence Against Women, created the Adoption and Safe Families Act, not to mention all of the lobbying for health care, childhood, and family issues.
