Reciprocity/ A Few Things To Do If Your Moving Out Of State

If your planning to move from one state to another the first thing of course is to check and see if the state you are moving to has reciprocity with your state and you can do that by visiting that states official cosmetology state board site for any updates and their requirements. I have mentioned many times that statutes and rules are constantly changing and different sites may not always have the latest and up to date information you need.

Secondly you need to check your state board site and see if you can file online or if you have to send a written request for certification of your license and requirements needed with the fee to send your certification to the state you are moving to. That can take up to a month or longer, but they will let you know usually how long it will take.

The state where you are moving to would then get in touch with you and let you know how to proceed by either sending you an application or directing you to their website where you could download the application and send it in with the correct fee. Almost all states view applications on a individual bases and make their decision.

As far as I know you can be licensed in as many states as you want so long as you qualify and pay your renewal fees. I personally would never give up my Pennsylvania license if I ever moved because I never know what may happen and I wouldn’t want to go through the process of having it reinstated if I decided to move back.
