Pennsylvania Reciprocity

jude8753 | Reciprocity | Friday, 30 November 2007

Natalie: I am trying to move to Philadelphia, PA but have no idea what to do to get my PA license even though I have a NJ cosmetology license. I cannot find info anywhere and the people I have called seem to have no answers. Please let me know what I have to do. I know NJ and PA are not reciprocal. Do I have to go back to school?

Answer: You cannot obtain a cosmetologist license by reciprocity based upon a license in any of these states: California, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, New Jersey, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Wisconsin or Utah.

You would be required to take and pass the entire state board examination (theory and practical) to obtain a Pennsylvania license. Contact PCS for the
appropriate examination application at 1-888-822-3272 or www.pcshq.com

You can recheck requirements because they change constantly and I personally can’t keep up with all states even though this one is mine and I love it, I still have to always check. Most states require additional learning credits every year and so far PA hasn’t pushed that, but who knows in the future?

This is a commonwealth state and over the years I have noticed many queer laws that regular states just don’t have and I’m not just referring to Cosmetology.

New Jersey Reciprocity

jude8753 | Reciprocity | Friday, 30 November 2007

Danielle: Hi. I am currently a hairstylist at a Regis salon in Mnpls.. I’m considering moving to New Jersey. I was wondering what I would have to do if I were to move.

Answer: Well, first you would need to get verification sent to the state you are moving to. Read what Minn. says to do.

New Jersey says: Licensure by endorsement is offered to cosmetologist-hairstylist applicants who satisfy the requirements for licensure as a cosmetologist-hairstylist, and hold a current license as a barber and beautician in another state or foreign country.

Additional information regarding the practice of cosmetology and hairstyling, barbering, skin care or manicuring, or inquiries on how to file a complaint, can be forwarded to Mr. Jay A. Malanga, Executive Director, New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling, P.O. Box 45003, Newark, NJ 07101; or by calling the Board at (973) 504-6400. You may also send your questions via e-mail to askconsumeraffairs@dca.lps.state.nj.us.

You would probably be required to take additional tests since they have merged the barber and cosmetology license. For more information: Read their faqs

I Have Found My Perfect Grandfather Clock

jude8753 | Beauty Misc | Wednesday, 28 November 2007

I have always loved clocks and especially the large majestic Grandfather clocks anything that makes a ticking sound has always been soothing to me even though I don’t like the idea of time passing away I’m still fascinated with them and have always wanted one. I have never really thought of any particular brand before, I just knew that one day I was going to get one.

The way I have always moved around I haven’t had a home that I thought was going to be permanent nor anyone that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with until I met Bill. I am hoping within the next 5 years we are going to move out of the city and that is when I am going to get the clock of my recent dreams that I just found and I love it.

It will fit in perfectly with the rustic decor that I am planning. You can see a picture of it below and if you click on the picture you can see a very large image, It’s beautiful and just my style. I sit and draw designs of my house all the time and picture everything in my mind and on paper the more details you can visualize the better for your mind power. I have everything planned out, even the barn and horse and Bills’ big garage.

However I couldn’t picture the type of Grandfather clock I wanted till I visited 1-800-4Clocks, that is the actual name of the company and I checked out all they had to offer. I saw a lot of unusual designs and was drawn to several, they had one that looks like a city lamp post that I thought was awesome and then I saw mine which I loved on sight because I love to hear water and it has that rustic feel. Since I plan on having an open floor plan with a water feature near the front entrance this will flow nicely where I have the dining area planned. I can’t wait.

Actually like I said before I had never even thought of the type or brand name that I wanted just knew I was going to have my own someday and when I saw all the different brands I was confused so I checked them all till I saw the one I wanted and it is from the Howard Miller grandfather clocks collection. I did check their blog because I was curious.

I know that I will probably have to find an interior decorator or designer to help me even though I have my own ideas of what I want and their blog has so much information about how to choose a clock and the history about clocks and I even found a post about clocks and home decor you can find designers near you by inserting your zip code which will come in handy when the big time comes. You can’t really see all the greens and really get the rustic feel from this picture that I borrowed from their site, but I’d appreciate your opinions on my choice.

Indiana- Am I still Eligible To Take State Boards?

jude8753 | Reciprocity | Wednesday, 28 November 2007

I am finding that in most states your hours never expire after graduation, but you are sometimes advised to take a refresher course and you have to be able to prove your hours before you are allowed to take your state boards. Some states only give you a specific amount of time to complete boards after graduation.

You should always try and get in touch with the school you graduated from they are always happy to help their graduates and see them succeed. Also check your state board web site for all updates if you have concerns and questions about the rules and regulations because they change constantly.

Chacha: Hi, I attended cosmetology school in Indiana and completed 1500 hours in 2005, can I still take the examination to get my license?

Answer: I suggest you get in touch with the beauty school you graduated from. Rules and regulations vary from state to state and they would be more familiar with the process you would need to follow for your state. However the candidates handbook is listed below if you would like to read through it..Good-luck. Indiana Candidate Handbook

Since answering the question above I have started a page to find out about credits and if they expire in the different states. Read about Indiana requirements.

California Reciprocity And Other Faqs

jude8753 | Reciprocity | Wednesday, 28 November 2007

Alicia: Hey there so glad to have found you! I’m moving from Dallas to San Diego,Ca and want to know if you have any info on transferring my license and how long of a process it is? I have been licensed in Texas for almost 10 years. Thanks!

Answer: It is my understanding that California has no reciprocity available (That was changed this past year) and the Applicants must take both written and practical exams. There is also a 100 hour difference in hours. It would be best for you to send them an email directly or give them a call.

I found this on the application form in section b of the qualifications:
I have held a license in another state for 3 years or more. [The board shall grant a license without examination to practice to an out of state applicant if the applicant submits all of the following to the board:

(a) A completed application form and all fees required by the board. (b) Proof of a current license issued by another state to practice that meets all of the following requirements: (1) It is not revoked, suspended, or otherwise restricted. (2) It is in good standing. (3) It has been active for three of the last five years, during which time the applicant has not been subject to disciplinary action or a criminal conviction.

I have requested a Certification from the State with which I hold a current license be sent directly to the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. You can find that form here APPLICATION FOR EXAMINATION ANDINITIAL LICENSE FEE If I were you I would give them a call to make sure of all their laws.

Michele: Thinking of moving from Hawaii to CA. I’m already a licensed cosmetologist. Whats the requirement for obtaining my license in CA?

Answer: You need to read this and follow the requirements

Maria: Hi I have a license in Missouri and I’m moving to California .
What would I need to do? Do I have to retake all the tests again?

Answer: Read the answers above.

Somer Buzzell: I have 1550 hours and I want to move to California which is 1600 I have 4 years of experience could that count for the extra 50 or what do I need to do to go about this?

Answer: Yes your experience will count. Below are 2 sources.

Carson: I went to cosmetology school back in 1992/3 and completed 1100 hours which I froze then. I haven’t been back since. This was in Ontario California. I was wondering do I need to start from fresh, how do I request getting back those hours if I can, and who do I contact? Please help me!!

Answer: Assuming that you don’t have a transcript from your school for the hours that were completed, I would first suggest that you get in touch with the school you attended and see if they can provide it for you.

That becomes a problem if the school no longer exists. I would then try the state board of cosmetology for California and see if they still have a transcript of your hours if they don’t then I’m afraid you would have to start all over again.

Will Answer Comment Questions Tomorrow

jude8753 | Beauty Misc | Tuesday, 27 November 2007

Hello to everyone and I’m sorry I haven’t gotten much work done this past week since Bill was on holiday. I really like to spend as much time as possible with him. Just wanted to add a note that I just checked comments and will get to those tomorrow when I get back on schedule. It’s time for bed and after watching the grandkids tonight I am a little tired.

Hope Everyone Had A Beautiful Thanksgiving

jude8753 | Beauty Misc | Friday, 23 November 2007

Well, I certainly hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday. I didn’t post the last couple days because it was a little hectic getting everything done. We had a very nice Thanksgiving day and Bills’ son and family came over to join us. It was very enjoyable.

Everyone is probably out doing their Black Friday shopping today. This is one day I always avoid because I really don’t like crowds and it overwhelms me sometimes. I prefer to shop when the crowds are less hectic with all the pushing and shoving and the hustle and bustle.

Bill did venture out to check on a few things, but I declined the invitation to go along. He’s watching something on TV right now while I am doing this so I want to hurry and join him. I actually have a beautiful relationship with him and really enjoy his company, sure we argue sometimes, but it’s always fun to make up.

In my 54 years I can honestly say this is the best relationship I have ever been involved in. We can talk about anything and he makes me laugh and that is very important. I have total trust in this man and this season as in the past 5 years I give a heartfelt thanks that he is in my life.

Be safe everyone and enjoy your shopping savings today. I’m off to spend time with Bill.

Arkansas Reciprocity

jude8753 | Reciprocity | Wednesday, 21 November 2007

Any answers that I give I locate from the respective state sites that perhaps students and others just can’t seem to locate and I really don’t mind trying to find answers for anyone that takes the time to ask, but the best thing is always to try and get in touch with the administrator of your school and if they are not easy to access then always try your state board of cosmetology.

Crystall: I’ve been thinking about moving to Ft. Smith, AK. What website could I go to or what phone number could I call to get all the information about transferring my cosmetology License. Aren’t the hours the same in Arkansas as they are in Texas?

Answer: This is the form you need, but read all the directions and you will have to get the state board in Texas to send certification of your license to Arkansas. This form gives you all the information you need.  Arkansas Reciprocity Application.

Send a $ 15.00 money order and request a certified transcript of hours. In the letter, specify where the transcript needs to be mailed. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

A Year Supply Of Freeze It For My Brother

jude8753 | Beauty Misc | Tuesday, 20 November 2007

I like participating in contests as I’m sure many of you do and this is one that I would love to win for my brother. I have a chance to win a year supply of Freeze It and I know my brother would benefit greatly from this product. This is a picture of my brother Cecil and his wife Kay. They’ve been married for 43 or 45 years, I can never keep up.

cecil_kay.gif

He is 64 now and retired and tries to take care of Kay because she’s very sick and also his daughter and grandkids that moved back home. I have always told him he was just to darn nice and I always pick on him because he’s 12 years older than I am, but I feel like I’m catching up fast. That reminds me that I have to cut his hair tomorrow or before Thursday at any rate.

When he was young he played sports and injured his knee and tendons from running and over the years arthritis set in and he has tried numerous products plus injections and still has tremendous pain. Not only his poor old knees, but he later injured his back and I feel really sorry for him because he’s always in pain.

I’m going to buy him a tube of this stuff when I get to the drugstore so he can try it since I already told him how well I liked it and that it will also help relieve arthritis, muscular strains along with painful ankles. Yes, when we get old we have aches in places we never even knew we had. Since his money is limited at this point in his life I hope this post will be one of the ones to be chosen.

jude_freeze_it.JPG Freeze It Gel , I don’t know if you have ever tried this, but I have and it was so much better than icy hot and with out the smell that lingers. It does have a smell when you first use it and the ingredients include aloe and vitamin E along with pain relievers which include menthol and camphor, along with an herbal extract called Ilex which all combined together give beneficial results.

The smell dissipates quickly unlike some of those other products which linger and just makes you stink and it’s better for those that might have a breathing problem. I have back problems and with working on the computer a lot my shoulders, neck and back are always painful and so sore and I have really found this to be an effective product for my sore aching muscles.

Be sure to watch the Freeze It video below and see what you think. It comes in gel form and a roll on for easy use and believe me, you or someone you love that suffers from chronic pain will really appreciate you telling them about this product and it only cost around $10.00 for a 4oz tube, a small price for effective relief. Wish me luck with the contest.

An Option To Darken The Dreaded Gray Hair

jude8753 | Beauty Tips | Monday, 19 November 2007

Many young people are going gray early and some are undecided about coloring their hair. Men especially think it would make them seem vain to their peers, but young people everywhere accept changing of hair color as a normal expression of who they are now a days. It’s pretty much anything goes and the trends we see come and go daily.

For many people that don’t have the time and money that it requires to keep up with the regrowth I always suggest that they try low-lighting because it’s more natural looking and you only select certain strands to give a darker appearance and you don’t have to worry about the starkness of the regrowth of white against all that dark, it is more blended and much healthier.

Men as well as women should always stay away from metallic hair color such as Feria and Grecian formula especially if you are planning on having any other chemical services done because it could cause a melt down. I have another post on the sidebar that you can check for more information about metallic dyes. I personally think it is very striking to see a young face with silver hair.
