Vitamin And Mineral Supplements For Healthy hair

August 14th, 2007

Not everyone gets enough vitamins in their food and we don’t always eat right so it is a good idea to take supplements. If we expect to have healthy hair there are several which we need on the inside and not just the outside. Beauty starts within and making sure we get enough vitamins and minerals will also help our hair and skin.

If you are sick, undernourished or stressed out and you don’t get enough sleep it will always show up in your hair. If you take drugs or smoke you can be assured that it will show in the condition of your hair and if you are deficient in certain vitamins and minerals it can lead to thinning hair and possible baldness in very severe cases.

Vitamin A is essential for healthy hair. Vitamin A was the first vitamin discovered and it has many uses like keeping eyes healthy, aiding cell growth and also helping boost the immune system plus normal growth of bones, skin, nails and the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibers. Vitamin A itself is found in a number of foods such as eggs, milk, liver and meat. Beta carotene that the body can convert into vitamin A is found in many fruits and vegetables, especially the red, orange and green coloured ones.

Other foods which have high levels of beta carotene that can be converted to vitamin A in the body includes tomatoes and dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach. Beta carotene is a powerful antioxidant also and none of the beta carotene that is absorbed is wasted because any excess after the conversion to vitamin A has taken place is used to fight the harmful free radicals within the body.

Vitamin A also helps to fight infections and illnesses by helping tissues that line various parts of the body, including the eyes, mouth, nose, throat and lungs, to grow and also to repair them if they are damaged to prevent infection. Children also need plenty of vitamin A to help their bones and teeth to develop properly.

Never exceed the recommended daily allowance for vitamin A. The actual recommended allowance of vitamin A varies depending on a person’s age, sex and other factors. It should not be taken in large doses because it can be toxic, it is better to take beta-carotene because the body converts this to vitamin A and it’s much safer. To have healthy hair we need to include B6, biotin, inositol and folic acid and We also need protein to insure that the hair is healthy and strong.

To help prevent weak and damaged hair you may need vitamin and mineral supplements. Always check with your Dr. first to see what he or she recommends and which dosage would be best for you.

I really like your website. It has so much helpful information. I will share it with my daughter. She likes beauty info. My mother-in-law would enjoy it, too. However, we haven’t been able to convince her to use the computer even though we got one for her several years ago. LOL :)

Thank-you so much for stopping by. I really enjoyed the information you have on your blog and I have added you to my blogroll. My Bill will not touch a computer either, he is afraid he will mess something up, maybe someday for both.
